Raph | Playlist

Raph, host of Diasporic Tendencies and the Slow Heat breakfast show has compiled a 20 track playlist, all available to buy from Bandcamp, show your support!

“This playlist is just a snapshot into how black people can do whatever the fuck we put our minds to. Black artists are often pigeonholed and stereotyped. I wanted to make a playlist not only to showcase how black artists occupy incredibly diverse fields of music that are often associated with (and usually dominated by) whiteness but also how these artists are (re)defining these spaces and taking them to completely new places.

The playlist takes you from contemporary black classical sounds to folk, to punk finishing with some of the most interesting electronic tunes on the scene at the minute coming from East Africa. Time and time again I find my own conceptions of blackness being challenged and pulled away from the monolithic essentialised standard we are constantly fed. I hope this playlist and artists featured can challenge you.”
